Safety information

This is an FDA-approved prescription medicine. A licensed provider decides whether treatment is appropriate. Prescription required. Read the full Prescribing Information and Medication Guide from the manufacturer before you start.

Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Full safety information

Important: WARNING: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. In studies with rodents, GLP-1 medicines including semaglutide, tirzepatide and orforglipron and medicines like it caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is not known if they cause these tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in people. Do not use if you or any family member has ever had MTC, or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing, hoarseness or shortness of breath.

The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, belly pain and lower appetite. They are most likely when you start or step up a dose and often ease with time. Serious but less common risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea), kidney problems from dehydration, serious allergic reactions, and changes in mood. Get emergency care for severe belly pain that will not go away, signs of an allergic reaction, or thoughts of self-harm.

Not for use during pregnancy. Stop at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy and tell your provider if you are breastfeeding. Tell the care team if you have surgery planned, since these medicines can affect anesthesia and how your stomach empties.

Zepbound® may make birth control pills less effective after starting and after each dose increase. Ask your provider about a backup method.

FAQ

Good questions.

Kind answers.

What is the difference between Wegovy and Zepbound?

Wegovy® contains semaglutide, which acts on the GLP-1 receptor. Zepbound® contains tirzepatide, which acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Both are FDA-approved weekly injections for chronic weight management. Wegovy® is also approved to lower major cardiovascular risk in certain adults with heart disease, and Zepbound® is also approved for moderate to severe sleep apnea in adults with obesity.

Is there an FDA-approved GLP-1 pill for weight loss?

Yes. The Wegovy® pill (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo™ (orforglipron) are FDA-approved daily tablets for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight plus a weight-related condition. The Wegovy® pill is taken on an empty stomach with a sip of water and a wait before eating. Foundayo™ can be taken any time of day, with or without food.

Which brand-name GLP-1 is right for me?

It depends on your health history, other conditions like heart disease or sleep apnea, whether you prefer a weekly injection or daily pill, and insurance or budget. A licensed provider reviews your intake and decides whether treatment is appropriate, then recommends the option that fits. You can share your preferences in your intake so the provider knows what matters to you.

Does insurance cover brand-name GLP-1 medications?

Coverage depends on your plan, your diagnosis and the specific medicine. Some plans cover weight management medicines and some do not, and many require prior authorization. The care team can explain your options, including manufacturer programs where available. KIN Meds pricing is shown at checkout before you pay, so there are no surprises.

What is the boxed warning on GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medicines carry a boxed warning because they caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodent studies. It is not known if they cause these tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma, in people. They should not be used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. Report neck lumps, trouble swallowing or hoarseness.

What happens if the provider says treatment is not right for me?

If a licensed provider reviews your intake and decides treatment is not appropriate, you are not charged for treatment. The provider may explain why, suggest a different option in KIN Meds care, or recommend you see a local doctor first. That decision is based on your health history, current medicines and safety, not on which product you picked in the quiz.
